The unswerving dedication of the Gallo family to vineyards and wines, dating back over a century, is rooted in the labour and determination of family members such as Basilio, Stelio, Gianfranco and their relatives.
Gianfranco, who has managed the estate since 1978, introduced radical and far-reaching viticultural programmes and has devoted painstaking attention to winemaking practices; these initiatives have given the stamp of unique personality to the wines of Vie di Romans over the last 40 years.
There were a number of important steps in this historic process. 1978 saw the first bottling and label on the market, followed by vineyard reorganization aiming at improving quality in 1982; in 1989 the new three-storey winery building was erected. Wines from distinct vineyards were produced separately beginning in 1990, and in 1992, with the release of the 1990 vintage, the custom was established of releasing all whites a full two years after harvest.

Great wines are never the result of a single element, but rather the outcome of a complex interaction between environment, viticulture, and human vision. Climate, soil, and the natural conditions of a place shape the potential of the vineyard, providing the foundation upon which great grapes can grow. Careful viticultural decisions—from vineyard management to harvest timing—guide the vines toward balance and quality. Yet at the center of this entire process stands the winemaker, whose understanding of the land and respect for nature transform these elements into a wine with identity and character.
Through this constant dialogue between man and nature, the vineyard gradually reveals its voice. The role of the winemaker is not to dominate the land, but to listen to it, interpret it, and patiently guide its expression. When environment, viticulture, and human intention come together in harmony, the result is a wine that transcends technique and becomes a true reflection of place. Such wines capture the complexity, authenticity, and beauty of the landscape from which they are born.

Soils are medium-deep with gravel and reddish clay rich in iron and aluminum oxides.
Exposure North–South and East–West at about 31 m elevation.
Harvest took place between 7–13 September 2022.
Vinification: Cold maceration at 8°C followed by fermentation at 16–19°C with selected yeasts for 20–26 days. No malolactic fermentation. The wine matured 9 months on the lees in stainless steel and rested 8 months in bottle.

Medium-deep soils with moderate gravel and pebbles, silica-rich clay mixed with conglomerate, well-drained.
Harvest: 26th, 27th and 29th August 2022.
Vinification & Ageing: Cold maceration at 8°C, fermentation at 16–19°C with selected yeasts. No malolactic fermentation. Aged 8 months on the lees in stainless steel, followed by 9 months bottle ageing.

Shallow soils rich in gravel and pebbles with sandy-silt texture and reddish tones from iron and aluminum oxides, ensuring excellent drainage.
Harvest: 2nd, 5th and 6th September 2022.
Vinification & Ageing: Cold maceration at 8°C, fermentation at 16–19°C with selected yeasts. No malolactic fermentation.
Aged 9 months on the lees in stainless steel, followed by 8 months bottle ageing.

Soils range from shallow to medium depth, rich in gravel and pebbles with sandy-silt components and reddish tones from iron and aluminum oxides, offering excellent drainage.
Harvest: 2nd, 3rd and 6th September 2022.
Vinification & Ageing: Cold maceration at 8°C, fermentation at 16–19°C with selected yeasts. No malolactic fermentation. The wine ages 8 months on the lees in stainless steel, followed by 9 months bottle ageing.

Gravelly soils with sand and clay, well-drained. Harvest: 27 September 2019.
Vinification & Ageing: 31 days skin contact with punching down and délestage.
Fermented in stainless steel, aged 19 months in oak barrels followed by 8 months in stainless steel and 14 months in bottle.

Vie di Romans Pinot Nero
羅馬大道酒莊 黑皮諾紅葡萄酒
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Nero
Vineyard: From the Vie di Romans vineyard in Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte, Mariano del Friuli.
Vines average 8 years in age, planted at 7,800 vines/ha with a yield of about 3,850 kg/ha.
Soils are medium-deep with abundant gravel and pebbles, mixed with silt and clay. The upper layer is decalcified while the deeper layer is calcareous, ensuring excellent drainage and low water retention.
Harvest: 4 September 2020.
Vinification & Ageing: After de-stemming and crushing, the wine undergoes 21 days of skin contact with punching down. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at 18–30°C with selected yeasts, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged 14 months in oak barrels, then 1 month in stainless steel before bottling, and further refined with 14 months of bottle ageing.
